Empyreal Dreams – The Artbox Anthology.

http://slurl.com/secondlife/Ctrl%20Shift%20H/52/145/23

While looking for something to do I checked out the Editor’s Picks in Search and found Empyreal Dreams – a collaborative project between two creators, Remington, from England, and Ariel, from the United States. It aims to visualize famous poems and literature using Second Life as a canvas.

A teleportation machine greets the visitor with destinations available to: The Raven, The Ancient Mariner, Les Misérables and Emily Bronte’s The Bluebell.

I was joined by a friend and so our adventure began.

Eenie, meenie, miney, moe… off to see The Rime of the Ancient Mariner I go.
Change the environment to midnight for the full effect of the Ancient Mariner to dazzle you then walk down the path to the door and be greeted by the first part of the Rime and step through the floating pink petals to become immersed in the story of the Ancient Mariner.  Back to earth I returned.

Upon my return the Bluebell’s beckoned and I was off to explore an English Wood. Immersing myself in Emily Bronte’s The Bluebell I sat in the tree and gazed at the scenery that twinkled as the beams of sunshine stream through the woods, lighting the field of bluebells at your feet.  Dragging myself from the beauty of the field I returned to earth.

Next it was time to tread the streets of Old Paris as the story of Les Misérables unfolded before us.  Upon climbing the starry staircase to the heavens I took a ride on an asteroid while Ely sat on Saturn’s rings as we circled the solar system.  I could have hung there forever but I had one more place to visit so back to earth I floated.

Last but by far least I ported into the Raven by Edgar Allen Poe.    Quotations from the poem and evocative images envelop the viewer in an imaginative light and dark world. Seek out the three Raven images, the 40 Poe signatures and the secret ramp that leads to the invisible platform under the swirling dome.

Once back on earth we wandered the rest of the Ctrl Shift H sim (have to love the name) visiting the various stores many of which I have not seen before.

And there we found the Fire Good main store… OMG…. silly launcher heaven.  With everything from a multicoloured teddy bear launcher to a stinky sock launcher there is bound to be something in this place to keep you amused for hours.  The mind control glasses were a must buy….and upstairs you will find some Sexah Teef…. Just wear ‘em and look HOT.

The stunning pieces of visual art are definitely worth a look to see.  My sincerest congratulations to Remington and Ariel who built this work.  Amazing!

After looking around the sim I had the pleasure of meeting Remington av to av.  What a fabulous guy.  He graciously agreed to tell me all about his work.

kay Weston: This is quite amazing Remington
Remington Aries: thanks
kay Weston: Tell me about yourself Remington.
kay Weston: How long have you been in SL and how did you find out about it?
Remington Aries: I found out about it from a novel, it featured as a meet up place and I honestly thought the guy was making it up, until I googled it. Been here a couple of years, and I teamed up with Ariel Wingtips to make these early this year
Kay Weston: Snowcrash?
Remington Aries: do you know, I can’t recall its name. The plot involved the Middle East.
kay Weston: Who choose the stories that you decided to recreate?
Remington Aries: well to be honest, the law. It would have been great to use some contemporary poetry but copyright laws forbid it, we would have been nailed by lawyers, so we went for poems that lent themselves well to artistic interpretation, but were also out of copyright
kay Weston: How did you go about creating the development of storyboard?  Who was responsible for the visual elements?
Remington Aries: we flush ideas out between us on google docs, brain storm what might work bearing in mind  we are actually 4500 miles apart, then I tackle the art, whilst Ariel handles scripting and bolting it together so it can be moved, which is actually a lot of work.
kay Weston: How long did each of the areas take from inception to final creation?
Remington Aries: well I would put a figure of around 8 weeks for each box, from first concept to finished as you see it
Kay Weston:  What is your next project Remington?
Remington Aries: the next box is the owl and the pussycat and also, we are going to package them all up and offer them as collectable works for sale
kay Weston: I love the work.  It is really impressive and showcases your artistic talents beautifully
